I agree with you, both about the sacred and your work, except for one thing. I don't think you meet each individual in their sacred space. I think you meet each individual where they are and invite them into your sacred space. I think you provide a place that is safe, and reverent, and peaceful. By providing that space you extend an invitation for individuals to open up and explore their secret places together. Even if they choose not to accept the invitation, creating the space and welcoming them into is in itself sacred. I appreciate the work you do.

For clarification, this addendum:
I want to make it clear that I know that most of those who participated in these protests preferred a peaceful action. But I also want to say that I have two vivid memories of that time. One was hearing that some protesters had fire-bombed the University library. Even as a six year old, I found that to be a most troubling and strange way to make one's point. The other was hearing that a young woman who was walking across campus carrying a kitten was killed by a stray bullet when a police officer fired into a crowd. The atmosphere of violence was pervasive. Once one person spits in the face of a police officer or breaks a window, everything changes. It is imperative that a resolute, non-violent, calm be guiding principle to success.
I also want to say that I need to start waiting 30-60 minutes, and then re-read my posts before sending them - just to keep the writing clean, if nothing else.

Thanks for the kind response. Sometimes thinking things through "out loud" can lead to some big "Ahas!", and sometimes to sounding like an idiot. I'm willing to take my chances, I guess.

Your reflection on this precepts and this one in particular are well thought out, relaxed and yet intellectually rigorous enough to invite us to think and reflect. I think you hit the mark in that you seem to point to them as living, fluid yet uncompromising aides to living in an awake and reflective way as we go about inadvertently killing some things in order to live, on the one hand, and striving to do no harm.

A vibrant look at the precepts. Thanks Kate! I hope you share with Tim and Rosemary, too.

I too am grateful for the love and friendship that my husband and I shared with Donna and Billy for the past 15yrs. We met at a time that was purley accidental. Looking for a garage sale next door and finding the treasure that became the dearsest friends one could ever hope for. We made our first purchase of Donna's tree scuplture that still adorns our willow tree. It was the first of many Objects of Designs by both Bill and Donna. We celebrated many holidays and parties and days together. I am grateful to have know them as a couple that showed all of us what true love looks like. Billy is gone far to soon but leaves his mark in so many ways. Not just his art that was so beautiful but his kind and generous nature. We will hold Donna in our hearts and lives for as long as there is us. She and Billy encouraged and supported my step into the art world. Life will ocourse go on but there will always be an empty space in our hearts with out Bill in our lives. Let it be known that the love and respect for Donna will never wane. We love her. My wish is that each and everyone of us will enjoy a friendship as true as that we shared with Billy and Donna. He will be sorley missed by many which is a testemate to his life well spent.
